Students with Disabilities

Crichton College is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to all students who properly disclose and document disabilities.  We are equally committed to upholding all applicable provisions of Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act (1973), which mandate equal access for students with disabilities to private, postsecondary institutions.

Identification:

It is the student’s responsibility to voluntarily and confidentially disclose information regarding the nature of the disability. Students who desire accommodation under the ADA must demonstrate their eligibility for accommodation by completing the following two steps:

 1) Register with the Office of Student Success
 2) Provide current documentation of the qualified disability.

Some examples of disabilities include the following:

  • Hearing/Visual/Mobility impairment
  • Learning disability
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Processing/Cognitive disorder

Examples of appropriate documentation may include

  • A letter from the student's doctor
  • A psychological or psycho-educational evaluation
  • An individual education plan
  • Other qualified certification of disability

Documentation will be evaluated in order for the staff to confirm that the condition rises to the level of disability. Once the condition is verified, documentation will be used to determine which accommodations are needed. For more information, please contact the Office of Student Success at 901-320-9768.
