Wilkes came to Crichton during the 2005-2006 inaugural season and begins his 4th season as a Men's Basketball assistant. Prior to Crichton Wilkes coached at his alma mater, White Station High School. In his three seasons at White Station he led the Spartans to runner-up at the TSSAA State Championship in 1996 and 1998. Wilkes then signed with Hiwassee Junior College where he played for Crichton’s Coach Jeff Walker. While at Hiwassee, he was selected first team All-Region VII both seasons, and led them to the TJCCAA Championship in 1999-2000. When his Hiwassee career was complete he went on to be a two year starter at Middle Tennessee State University. Crichton’s Head Coach and Athletic Director Jeff Walker stated “It is an honor and a privilege to add Dee Wilkes to our staff. It is especially gratifying to have a former player,  wanting to come back and work with us.” Coach Wilkes will assist in recruiting, scouting, and will handle equipment and managers. On the court Coach Wilkes will focus primarily on the play of the point guards. Wilkes is experienced in Head Coach Jeff Walker's system having played two years for Walker while at Hiwassee. This experience will help ease the transition for a new program. Wilkes is well connected in the Memphis basketball scene and will provide valuable recruiting contacts.
