  Comets Defeated in Double Overtime

Memphis, TN – February 23, 2008- The Crichton Comets men's basketball team loss today in double overtime to the Bulldogs of Union University. The Comets came into the game 16-12 overall and 10-8 in TranSouth Conference play. The Comets controlled the game for most of the first half. The score was tied once early in the half, but after that it was all Comets and they would go to the locker room at the break up 38-31.

In the second half, the Comets came out and continued to control the game. Building on the lead they already had, the Comets largest lead came with 10:01 minutes left in the game when they led by 13 points. The Bulldogs continued to battle back and with 4:31 left in the game they were able to tie it up. The Bulldogs went ahead of the Comets, but the Comets battled back and managed to tie the game up. At the buzzer, the score was all tied up 80-80 and Comets found themselves in overtime.

In the first overtime, the score went back and forth with the lead changing hands several times. At the end of 5 minutes of play, the score was still tied and a second overtime would be played. In the second overtime, Crichton would lead most of the way, but the Bulldogs fought back and tied the score up with 1:13 left in the overtime. The Bulldogs would go ahead in the final seconds of the overtime to defeat the Comets 105-106.

Two Comets had a double-double. Stanley Brownlee scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Michael Sapp scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds. Four other Comets scored in double figure, Emanuel Wimbush with 31 points and 6 rebounds, Sylvania Watkins with 13 points and 9 rebounds, Zarko Brankovic scored 11 points and 2 rebounds and Rico Seay scored 10 points and 2 rebounds. Dontaye Hinton had 6 assists on the night. Leading scorer for Union was Matt Neaville with 40 points
