Comets Fall in Double Overtime to Trevecca

Memphis, TN – January 7, 2008 - The Comets came into the night ready to keep building on their 2-1 TranSouth Conference record. Trevecca Nazarene University came to Memphis hoping to improve on their TSAC standings. The score went back and forth for the first 4 minutes of the game, and then the Comets took the lead and didn't relinquish it for the rest of the half. With 12:15 left in the first half, the Comets led by 18 points. At the half the Comets led by 12 points with a score of 48-36. The sharp shooting Trojans came out in the second half and little by little chipped away at the lead. The Comets found themselves tied at the 14:31 minute mark 54-54. From then on the score went back and forth with the Trojans leading by as much as 6 points. After several lead changes, the Comets found themselves tied at the buzzer 84-84 after a 3 point basket made by Rico Seay. In the first overtime, the Comets led with 1:15 seconds left, but the Trojans fought back and managed to tie the game up at 93-93 leading to a second overtime. In the second overtime the Trojans came out tough and managed to control the lead until the Comets tied the game up converting on a two shot free throw by Rico Seay. The Trojans took the lead when Josh Helton hit a 3 point shot and then went ahead of the Comets after Michael Sapp fouled Marcos Salvi sending him to the free throw line. Salvi made both of his free throws and went up by 3 points with 3 seconds remaining. The Trojans escaped Memphis with a 109-106 victory in double overtime.

Leading the way for the Comets was Stanley Brownlee with a team high 29 points. Emanuel Wimbush, Demario Chaffin and Rico Seay also scored in double figures with 18, 16, and 15 points. Emanuel Wimbush led the Comets in rebounding with 6. Josh Helton led the Trojans with 34 points.
