  Comets Lose in Overtime

Henderson, TN – January 31, 2008- The Crichton College Men's basketball team took to the road tonight to take on the Lions of Freed-Hardeman University in conference play. The Lions came into the game with a 5-4 conference record and having won their last five games. Freed jumped out to an early lead until the Comets tied it up 9-9 at the 15:40 minute mark. The score went back and forth until the Lions tied it up with 9:35 minutes left in the half. The score was back and forth from then on with neither team able to maintain the a lead larger than 4 points. Crichton was able to take the lead in the final seconds of the fist half when Stanley Brownlee scored a buck on an assist from Derek Boykin. The Comets went into the locker room at the half with a 1 point lead and the score 37-36.

In the second half the Comets built on their first half lead and enjoyed a 10 point advantage with 8:21 remaining. The Lions played tough however and battled back to tie the game up with :22 seconds left in the game. At the buzzer the game was tied up 69-69. The game was going into overtime.

In overtime, the Comets were unable to make their baskets and committed multiple fouls allowing the Lions to outscore them by 8 points. At the end of the overtime, the Lions had defeated the Comets 73-81.

Three Comets registered double figures scoring, led by Stanley Brownlee with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Derek Boykin scored 16 points had 6 rebounds and three asisst for the night and Zarko Brankovic scored 10 points. High scorer for the Lions was Zack Fray with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Final Score: Crichton 73 - Freed-Hardeman 81 OT
