Comets Advance To Tournament Championship

Memphis, TN – March 3, 2007 - Crichton College's # 7ranked Men's basketball team won thier 12th game in a row tonight as they took on Martin Methodist in the conference tournament. With a date in Kansas City waiting, the Comets kept thier eyes on taking the tournament championship to go along with thier regular season title. Martin Methodist was in another situation. having a successfull season, they knew it would take a win for them to have a chance at an at large bid to Kansas City. The Comets came out and traded baskets with the Red Hawks, and both teams took turns making runs throughout the half. Crichton held Martin to 24% shooting from the field and a low 23% from beyond the arc. With the Comets holding a double digit lead late , Martin made a small run to end the half and the Comets took a 29-26 lead into the locker room.

The second half mirrored the first with both teams making runs and just when you thought it was going to get out of hand, one team would make a run and keep it interesting. With both teams shooting 60% from the field, it had all the makings for a shoot out at the end. In the last minute of the game, the Comets had a double digit lead, but with a three and a few missed foul shots by Crichton, Martin had life. Stanley Brownlee hit two big free throws and even with a Martin basket in the closing seconds the Comets took the victory 82-78.
