Second Half Surge Gives Comets Their Fourth Straight

Little Rock, AR – November 22, 2006 - Crichton College's Men's basketball team went on the road Wednesday for their second game in one week against Philanders Smith College. One week earlier the Comets made short work of the Panthers cruising to a 105-82 victory at home. This game would be a different story however. Philander Smith controlled the game early and enjoyed a double digit lead for the majority of the first half. Crichton could not stop the hot shooting of Philander and allowed the Panthers to score 49 points on 60% shooting. The Comets cut the lead late in the first half and went into the locker room down seven.

In the second half Crichton began to chip away at the lead playing good defense and running at every opportunity. By the midway point of the second half the Comets took the lead and would not look back. Crichton's stingy defense held Philander to 14% from the field on 8-36 shooting. The Comets shot 59% in the second half with the majority of their 19 baskets coming from lay ups in transition. As the final buzzer sounded Crichton had pulled off a 27 point turnaround. In 20 minutes the Comets went from down seven to up 20 earning their fourth straight win.

Four players scored in double figures for Crichton with Sylvania Watkins and Stanley Brownlee each scoring at least 20. Zarko Brankovic and Derek Boykin rounded out the double figure scoring for the Comets with 10 and 13 respectively. Deshawn Danzey was one point shy of a double double with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Melvin Wilkes continued his assist barrage adding 9 to his league leading total. Larry Porter led the home team with 16.
