Memphis TN – November 15, 2006 - Crichton
College's Men's basketball team began a home winning
streak Wednesday as they toped the visitors from
Philander Smith College. From the opening tip Crichton
took control and began a 27-5 run that looked to put the
Comets in control with just over seven minutes to play
in the opening half. Philander would not go away and
began to chip away at the lead. By the :50 mark the
Panthers cut the lead to single digits for the first
time in nearly 15 minutes. The Comets regained a double
digit lead on the next possession as a Zarko Brankovic
three pointer gave Crichton an 11 point first half lead.
In the second half Philander
made another early run and cut the Comet lead to only
seven with 17:30 remaining. Crichton would respond
however, and by the 16:29 mark the Comets took a double
digit lead that they would not let go. Crichton pushed
the lead to as many as 27 and finished the game with a
23 point victory.
Five players scored in
double figures for the fourth straight game with
Sylvania Watkins leading the way with 19 points and 11
rebounds. Stanley Brownlee picked up his second double
double of the season with 12 points to go along with 17
rebounds. Zarko Brankovic, Chris Powell, and Deshawn
Danzey rounded out the double figure scoring for the
Comets. Melvin Wilkes dished nine assist to bring his
league leading total to 28. Philander Smith's Bobby
Green came off the bench and led all scorers with 21.
