Comets Suffer Set Back in First Conference Loss

Jackson, TN – January 15, 2007- The #22 ranked Crichton Comets men's basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season at the hands of #6 ranked Lambuth University. The Comets came into the game 12-4 overall and 4-0 in TranSouth Conference play. In a game that would determine who would stand alone atop the conference, it was back and forth throughout the first half with the lead changing hands several times. Both teams went into the locker room at halftime knotted in a 40-40 tie.

In the second half the Eagles lead reached seven but the Comets fought back and regulation ended with both teams tied at 79. With five seconds remaining in overtime and the Comets down one, Sylvania stepped to the line for his 24th and 25th free throw attempts of the game. Watkins tied the game with the first free throw and missed the second allowing the Eagles to gain possession and call a timeout. With five seconds remaining the Eagles drove the length of the floor and threw up a desperation shot in attempt to draw a foul. After the buzzer sounded, a questionable call sent Alvin Jenkins to the line for two free throws. Jenkins ended the game on his first free throw giving the Comets their first conference loss of the season.

Final Score: Crichton 89 - Lambuth 90

Player of the Game: Sylvania Watkins
