Memphis TN – November 11, 2006 - Crichton
College got their first win of the 06-07 season today as
they handled the visitors from Ecclesia College. The
Comets jumped out to an early lead and controlled the
first half on both ends of the court. Crichton lead by
as many as 19 points and held the Royals to only 26%
shooting in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half Ecclesia
began to chip away at the lead and by the 10:34 mark the
Royals had cut the 19 point lead to only 4. Four points
would be as close as Ecclesia could get and as Melvin
Wilkes knocked down a three pointer with just over 4
minutes remaining the Comets regained a double digit
lead. Crichton continued to push the lead and outscored
the visitors 18 to 6 in the final four minutes of the
game. As the final buzzer sounded the Comets finished
with a 23 point lead and a much needed win. For the
game, Crichton held the Royals to only 31% shooting and
dominated the battle of the boards by a 67-41 margin
including 26 offensive rebounds.
Five players scored in
double figures for the Comets with Melvin Wilkes
leading the way with 16 points 11 rebounds 3 assist and
5 steals. Jonathan Bohanna also registered a double
double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sylvania Watkins,
Michael Sapp and Uros Komadinic rounded out the double
figure scoring for the Comets
