Memphis, TN – January 6, 2007- Crichton
College's #25 ranked Men's basketball team picked up their first Conference road win of the season today on the road at Bethel College. Bethel jumped out to an early seven point lead and forced the Comets to play catch up. Crichton struggled to regain the lead in the first half and the Wildcats held off the Comet runs. Late in the first half Crichton took the lead and would not look back. A Derek Boykin three pointer at the buzzer ended the half and put the Comets up for good.
The Comets came out in the second half and extended the first half lead, pushing their advantage from 5 to 20. Crichton held the Wildcats to 26% shooting in the second half while the Comets shot 58% on 17-29 shooting. Bethel who shot 66% in the first half was held to just 26 points in the second and were outscored by 19 points. As the final buzzer sounded the Comets secured a 24 point victory, their first Conference road win and second TranSouth victory in as many games.
Stanley Brownlee led four Comets in double figures with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Gino Smith scored in double figures for the second straight game with 10 points while Derek Boykin came off the bench to score 18 points in 21 minutes. Sylvania Watkins scored in double figures for the 13th time this season with 11 points.
