Comets Drop Two Over the Holidays

Russelville, AR – December 29, 2006 - Crichton College's #25 ranked Men's basketball team went on the road for back to back games in as many days last weekend. The first game saw the Comets face NCAA Division II opponent Arkansas Tech University. Crichton fell behind early and played catch up the entire game. The Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech would not be denied and ended the Comets winning streak at eight games.

Crichton was led by Sylvania Watkins who scored 18 points and pulled down 9 boards off the bench. Stanley Brownlee put in another solid performance with 17 points and five rebounds while Derek Boykin added 10 points also off the bench. The Comets dropped their record to 8-3 while Tech improved to 3-7.

The second game saw the Comets travel to Arkadelphia Arkansas to face Henderson State University. With only 24 hours between games Crichton came out sluggish and got down big early. By half time the Reddies had built a 16 point lead and the Comets would be forced to play catch up. Crichton came out the second half and battled trying to force tempo and create turnovers. Henderson St. was up for the challenge as they handled the Comets pressure and built their lead. The Reddies ended the night with a 32 point win on the strength of 59% shooting including 25 points from Donte Norton.

Sylvania Watkins was the only Comet in double figures with 12 points to go with 3 rebounds. Melvin Wilkes added 8 points and led the team with 7 rebounds. The Comets fell to 8-4 on the season with their first conference game coming up on Wednesday January 3rd at streets ministries. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00.
