Comets Win Season Opener

February 7 , Memphis TN  – The Crichton College Baseball team opened their season today at home against Mississippi College. The Choctaws got on the board first when they scored on a double hit to right-center. The Comets came back in the bottom of the forth. Terry Reed scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Alan Wright, then Burleson scored when Dustin Young singled to right field. The Comets scored another four runs when Nick Gardner hit a grand slam over the right field fence. The Comets would score again in the fifth off a double to right hit by Dustin Young bring Preston Burlison home. The Choctaws came back in the top of the seventh and scored four runs, but the Comets would hold on to win the game 7-5. Billy Davis gets his first win of the season.

In the second game, the Comets led 1-0 in the bottom of the third, but the Choctaws would take the lead in the fifth inning scoring 5 runs before the Comets could get the side out. The Comets were able to score 1 run in the bottom of the fifth, but still trailed the Choctaws by 4. In the bottom of the seventh, the Comets scored a run on a when Turner Barnes hit a single to short allowing Dustin Young to score. With the bases loaded, the Choctaw pitcher hit John David Beane with a pitch allowing Turner Barnes to score. The Comets loaded up the bases again, and with two outs D.J. Merriwether hit a single to center field allowing Daniel Greer and Zach Mays to score. The Comets would defeat the Choctaws 6-5. Anthony Albonetti gets the win.
