April 30, 2008 – The Crichton College Lady Softball team traveled to Jackson, TN today for the start of the TranSouth Conference tournament. The Lady Comets took to the field at 11:00 am this morning in their first game against the Lady Cougars of Mid-Continent University. The Lady Cougars got on the board first in the top of the first inning scoring 1 run, but the Lady Comets would come back in the bottom of the first. With runners at first and third, Amiee Grissom singled to center bringing Ashley Smith in. At the end of one, the score was tied 1-1. In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Comets would score 2 runs off of errors committed by the Lady Cougars. At the end of two innings of play, the Lady Comets were up 3-1. The score would remain 3-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Sierra Coltharp tripled to right field bringing Amiee Grissom home, and Coltharp scored when Ashley Coffman grounded out to second. At the end of five innings of play, the Lady Comets were up 5-1. Neither team would score in the sixth or seventh innings, and the Lady Comets would defeat the Lady Cougars by a score of 5-1 in the first round game of the TranSouth Conference Tournament.
