Bartlett High School Standout Signs to Play for Lady Comets

March 17, 2008 – Jeremy Iwaszkowiec, Head Coach for Crichton College Women’s Soccer Program, announced the signing of Katie Vandiver today. Vandiver is from Saltillo, MS and is the daughter of Randy and Kathy Palmer.

Katie is a gifted athlete who played a wide variety of sports at Saltillo High School, including three years of soccer, four years of tennis, one year of cross country, and one year of bowling! Several of her teams had great success, such as a Cross Country Division Championship and a State Runner-up finish in bowling.  Vandiver enjoys a variety of hobbies including reading, drag racing, and “just being outside”.  She is very active in multiple high school activities such as FCA, FEA, SADD, DECA, and the National Honor Society. She is also an honor student.

The soccer team experienced rapid growth and success during Katie’s career including a record of 14-4-3 her senior year as Katie scored 17 goals and had 14 assists. She was named to the All-Area and All-Region teams as well as winning the “Senior Leadership” award bestowed by her coach Gary Cherry.

Coach Iwaszkowiec is excited to have Katie join the Comets and believes she will be a tremendous asset to the women's team: “Katie has the potential to play a variety of positions for us. She brings a level of energy and spunk that will hopefully be contagious. I am thrilled to have her and expect her to make an immediate impact.”
