Crichton Comets Add NCAA Division 1 Transfer

July 1, 2005 – Jeff Lean, Head Coach for Crichton College Women’s Soccer Program, announced the signing of Tiffany Genovese of Surrey, British Columbia. Genovese graduated in 2000 from North Surrey Secondary before playing one season at NCAA Division 1 University of California – Sacramento. She will enter Crichton this fall as a sophomore.

Genovese, a 5-foot-7 forward, was a three sport athlete at North Surrey Secondary (Soccer, Cross-Country, and Volleyball) and was awarded Most Valuable Player and named Team Captain her Junior and Senior year. During her club soccer, Genovese played for both North Vancouver Select and Port Coquiltam Spirit Metro, participating in prestigious tournaments such as Surf Cup and the Hawaiian Cup, as well as a 2nd place finish in the Tempe Thanksgiving Cup and a tournament championship in the Northwest Soccer Tournament. In 1999, Genovese was selected to represent British Columbia on the provincial squad which finished 3rd at the Canadian National Championship in Quebec.

In her one year at University of California – Sacramento, the squad suffered narrow losses to perennial powerhouses Santa Clara and University of California – Berkley. However, a strong conference run earned the program a berth into the 2000 NCAA Big Sky Conference Championships. After returning home to British Columbia, Genovese was selected to the Coquitlam FC Premier women’s team, the 2001 Canadian Women’s National Champions. This past year, she helped guide the team to a 2nd place finish in the Provincial Championships, losing to Surrey FC in the final.

“I am very excited about the experience and offense spark that Tiffany will bring to this young squad,” said Comets Coach Jeff Lean. “Her resume speaks for itself. My hope is that she will come in and make not only an immediate impact on the field, but that she will also show the leadership to help bring along other players for our first year program.”
