The Department of Bible and Theology provides an intellectually stimulating curriculum and a climate that encourages the spiritual transformation of the student. Every faculty member has committed his or her life to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, strongly believes that the Bible is the Word of God, and is devoted to teaching from a Christ-centered perspective.
The purpose of the Department is to introduce all Crichton College students to a basic understanding of the contents of Scripture, the doctrines of Christian theology, and the contours of a Christian worldview; to equip Bible and Theology majors for vocational opportunities in the various fields of Christian ministry; and to prepare Bible and Theology majors for graduate study within their discipline. The Department seeks to:
- Guide students toward an authentic, personal, and growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord;
- Assist students in becoming familiar with the general content and meaning of the Bible, using it as the authoritative guide for faith and practice;
- Encourage students to combine sincere convictions regarding the Word of God with honesty and openness to new insights; and
- Lead students into God-honoring investigation and inquiry concerning the great issues of life.
The Department offers majors which are built significantly upon courses offered by the School but are enhanced by courses from other disciplines. While the curricula for the major are structured to provide a comprehensive foundation for biblical and theological studies, students may also choose to focus in the areas of Old Testament, New Testament, Theology, and Ministry. All majors are encouraged, though not required, to minor in Biblical Greek. Doing so will upgrade the degree from a Bachelor of Science to a Bachelor of Arts.
