Frequently Asked Questions
- Who is my advisor? Crichton College now offers a service on the internet which allows students to access pertinent information regarding their records at the college. This service is called Web Advisor. Students’ advisor name is listed in their Web Advisor account. A student can also contact the Department of Education for this information.
- Can I choose the school where I student teach? No, School assignments are made by the school systems and grade levels are determined by the license you are seeking.
- How long is student teaching? Student Teaching is a full semester course and last approximately 75 days or typically 15 weeks.
- Why do I have to take the PRAXIS I exam? The State of TN requires that the PRAXIS I will be used as a part of the admissions process for entrance into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). There are four exceptions to these score requirements.
- a composite score of (22) and above on the Enhanced ACT or (21) on the ACT;
- a score of 920 and above on the SAT;
- Post-baccalaureate students who have earned an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher; or
- have earned a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- Why do I have to take the PRAXIS II and why do I have to pass them?
Teaching is a profession like law, medicine and accounting, each of these professions require professional exams.
- What is the different between the PRAXIS I & PRAXIS II exams?
Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Assessments (PPST®) are designed to measure basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The reading, writing, and mathematics assessments are available in two formats: paper-based or computer-based. Praxis I exams are required for entry into the Teacher Education Program.
PRAXIS II: Subject Assessment tests measure knowledge of specific subjects that K-12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. There are Subject Assessments, Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Tests and Teaching Foundations Tests. Praxis II is required for admittance to Student Teaching.
- How many credit hours are required to earn a degree?
Approximately 120 credit hours. Please check your academic catalog and program requirements.
