Bachelor of Science in Biomedicine
Degree Requirements = 121 credit hours
The purpose of the major in Biomedicine is to prepare students for careers in allied health, nursing, medicine, dentistry, and other biomedical professions. The major fulfills the requirements of most post-baccalaureate programs in these fields. An essential goal of this program is to help students integrate the study and practice of biomedicine with their Christian faith, in the worship of God and service of man.
As a result of study in this program, students will:
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of math, chemistry, and the biological disciplines essential for biomedical study and practice
- Be prepared in every major area a course should cover, according to national standards.
- Demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of the scientific method
- Be able to comprehend and present orally the contents of a scientific research journal article.
- Be able to discuss and evaluate scientific data and claims analytically and rationally
- Be able to communicate their understanding of a biomedical subject orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate understanding of how basic and clinical research are conducted and inform medicine
- Be able to show how Christian faith applies to the study and practice of biomedicine, especially how it reflects God’s glory and can be used to serve others
- Be able to consider, articulate, and support their opinions and conclusions about faith and science
- Be equipped for spiritual and ethical decision-making in health-related fields
- Compete successfully for admission to the biomedical programs for which they have prepared

* The Pre-nursing track allows students to complete the requirements for entrance to most nursing programs within 2 years. Students interested in nursing are strongly advised to determine the specific entrance requirements of the program(s) to which they intend to apply, and to consult upon entrance to Crichton with an advisor in the Department of Natural Sciences to design a course of study that will meet those requirements.
