About the School

Dr. Justin D. Barnard, Dean

The School of Arts and Sciences at Crichton College is an interdisciplinary community of Christian learners, teachers, and scholars who are vigorously engaged in the collaborative pursuit of a growing understanding of God’s truth as disclosed in the liberal arts and sciences. We value free, rigorous academic inquiry informed by the contours of a maturing Christian faith (fides quaerens intellectum).  Our mission is to shape the souls of our students – to hone their capacities to read, to investigate, to speak, to imagine, to write, and to reflect – toward the full measure of their humanity (imago Dei).

As a result of study in the School of Arts and Sciences students will demonstrate:

  • Improvement in critical thinking – in rhetorical, quantitative, scientific, and philosophical analysis,

  • Improvement in dialogical skills through various written, verbal, and visual media,

  • An improved understanding of the content and methodology of the various academic disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences,

  • A maturing awareness of the interplay between Christian faith and academic inquiry, and

  • A successful application of skill and knowledge enhanced through study in the liberal arts and sciences in appropriate vocations or continued study.

The School of Arts and Sciences is comprised of two divisions:

The Division of Humanities offers a traditional Bachelor of Arts degree in English, History, Humanities, and Pre-Law.

The Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Biomedicine and Chemistry.
